ATCs For All - Decades 1920s

I thought that a pack of ephemera from this era had been included in my order from the Memorabilia Company but I can't find it so .......
My Mother was a milliner, as I have probably mentioned many times, and this meant that she was quite a fashionable young lady of the time.  She made most of her clothes and hats, her best friend May alongside her, and I have some wonderful photos of these two ladies.  
I also have lots of souvenirs from different places, among them a booklet from  The Great Exhibition of 1924. Then there was the Autograph Album ......  Enough memorabilia to make some ATCs methinks!!

No original photos etc. were used only photocopies.
I used a page from the souvenir booklet as a background then attached a length of the old ribbon I bought from the market in Paris diagonally across the card.  I took a photo of my mother on the ferry to the Isle of Wight, cut it down and rounded the corners, then attached it to the lower right of the card.  This left room for me to attach a gold embossed word - Imagine.


I used the cover of the souvenir booklet as the background to this card.  The ribbon made a neat border so that, when I attached some photos taken at the Expo, the souvenir title could still be seen.  The sentiment - put on your wings - is what Mam did in 1932 when she married my Father and sailed to the other side of the world - Malaya.


I think that this drawing is beautiful. 
I did nothing to this card except add the picture.  
My Uncle Vincent, no first name, was an artist of some renown and had his own sign-writing business.  I can imagine him coming round to my grandparents house, along with a few other relations, and all these young people spending time drawing, playing the piano, singing and dancing, going on picnics ....... all the things that folks did back then ...... this is from that time ......

I have enjoyed making these cards ...... a good way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon.

UK ATC July Colour - Lilac and Green

Great colour choice!
I spritzed three cards with red and blue to make up my lilac background and, when they were dry, I set to work.

I used one to the decoupages from the Crop, donated by Shazsilverwolf (Thank you again Shaz).  When I had completed the decoupage, I attached it on the left side of the card and glittered some of the outside edges of the petals.
I cut down one of the vellum quotes, from the Crop again, and attached it by one side along the edge of the decoupage - Happiness dwells in the soul.

I attached a purple die cut to the background and sorted some floral pieces made from mulberry paper.  

I inked up the green leaves, attached them to the centre of the card, inked two sizes of flowers around the edges and attached them on top of the leaves.  A small punched flower, also inked, was placed in the centre of the large flower and small sequins placed in the centres of the flowers.  This card needs no sentiment! 

While sorting through my diecuts for the flourish, I found a Tour d'Eiffel and some branches.
I stamped an Arc de Triomphe slightly to the left side of the card and placed a branch, cut from the inside of an envelope, in an upright position to imitate a tree.  My little Tower went on top after I had used my metallic markers to highlight the tip.  
Small punched flowers, inked with purple, were placed in the corner of the card, adding small diamantes, inked to match, in the centres.

Summer of Colour - Week Two

It's week 2 of the Summer of Colour 4 Challenge on TwinkleTwinkleLikeaStar and this week I've really struggled to find the colours in my magazine.

So I cheated .........



I managed to find the colour Coral in my magazine but could not find the right shade of blue for Teal, so I printed out the colours as defined by Kristin on her Blog.
I cut out this rather flashy lady who just happened to be wearing the right colour PVC outfit.  
I cut out the Teal from the colour strip above and placed it to the left of my card, and a quote from my stash along the right side.  I placed the model off centre so that I could add some flower punchouts from the Coral side of the colour strip.

Now I am wondering why my photo has a blue background when it is clearly Teal in the strip above? 
 Weird!  

UK ATC July Theme - Historical Figures

I was going to go with Figures as in numerals - Roman, Egyptian etc. then changed my mind.  i will make my cards along the them of Historical Lady Figures.
I sorted some images out from the web and ideas formed in my head.....
Joan of Arc
I found an image of Joan with her long hair in armour, with a countyside background, her heraldic shield and thought that with a bit of netting, stamped with silver ink, I could make a presentable card.


The net was stamped and put to one side to dry ....
I attached the heraldic design as a background ......
Joan was fussy cut from her background .....


Charlotte Bronte
I found a photo of Haworth Parsonage to use as a background which I covered with gesso.
Quotes within circles were fussy cut and attached with more gesso so that the gesso formed a border to some of the circles.  When these circles had dried I coloured the edges with my metallic markers.
I fussy cut the image and placed it slightly off centre on the card.......

Queen Elizabeth I


Queen Elizabeth is one of my favourite people of History, she was strong enough to put her country first before her personal life.
I found an old map for the background, some ships, olde worlde title and a black /white sketch of Elizabeth.I printed the ships twice and roughly cut the second image.  The first image was put on the map and the title placed along the edge of the card.  When this had dried I put the second ship onto the first one.  The picture of Elizabeth was trimmed and placed to one side of the card.  When it had all dried, I coloured the crown, highlights in her hair and jewels with metallic markers.  I used a promarker to colour her gown.

I am not sure whether to add a sentiment or not .... for the present, I have no sentiment ......

Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge #141

I have a couple of comic magazines that I brought back from France so I am well equipped to enter this Challenge.  Trouble is  .... trying to find suitable pages I can use!

I managed to find a page to cut up, which I forgot to photograph, but I can assure you these squares came from the same page.  I attached a picture to three pieces of card and then searched through my 'Words' box for suitable sentiments.
This is a 'Wicked' challenge so I looked at the pictures and for words with a slightly 'wicked' view.  The story is about Donald Duck reading a book, ignoring his nephews so that they have to get their own back - brings back memories of my childhood ..... I loved reading .....

 With a strip of blue/gold ribbon down the side I added a vellum 'FAMILY' so that the ducks could be seen in the state of disarray.  The other three sides were swiped through an inkpad to edge the card in the relevant colours.

I think those nephews are getting mighty sick of Donald reading .... the words say it all!  I made this card in the same way but 'touched' the ink pads over the sentiment before attaching it to the card.

I love this card!  Not just because I recycled the sentiment but because it is soooo appropriate ..... I can just hear me ....
Once again I made the card in the same way, sometimes cards just 'fall' together and these three were just like that.

I shall enter this one into the Challenge as it makes me smile!!

Summer of Colour - Week one

BJ had an interesting post for WOYWW #261 and a link to an interesting Challenge ..... The Summer of Colour 
I left a comment for Kristin to say it looked very interesting and I wanted to join in.

Then I forgot about it!!!

Today I was checking my comments on this Blog and found one from Kristin ... one click and I am in panic mode!!!

Here are the colours for this week ....

I have decided to make ATCs using a magazine from Paris.

  

I found the colours I needed in the magazine advertising various days out.  I cut out the background for the card from the blue advert.  I imagined a tree ..... and cut it out of the yellow part.  Now I needed a 'Smudge, Splash or Pop of Hot Pink'.  

What to do .... my small scissors went clip, clip, clip .... and flowers grew and .... a bird settled in the tree ....

My first Summer of Colour ATC complete .... so off I go now to meet up with Mr Linky .....

UK ATC June Swap

What to do?  I have this predicament every month don't I?

I have several ATCs as abstracts coloured with Inktense pencils.   I used the green one for this swap.  I covered it with one of the vellum quotes which I attached with green flower brads and rounded the corners.

 A vase cut from a piece of wallpaper, stuck to a piece of brown card, became the focal point on this one.  I diecut a flourish and punched several flowers from a page out of my Book of Papers.  When these diecuts were placed around the vase, they looked as though there were flowers falling out of it.!

Sometime ago I made a green Master sheet, using Gesso and stencils, which provided a background when I cut an ATC shape from it.  After using an excess butterfly topper on the bottom half, I placed some 3D small butterflies on the top half.  A small, circular sentiment printed on acetate finished off the embellishments.


I used an old envelope, tried out some of my newish stamps and inkpads, and came up with this wonderful work of art.


After I had stamped the rose border I coloured it with red  watercolour pencils and water washed it.   The quote was embossed in gold ...... boy did it stand out!!!

I received these little beauties by return:-


An embossed background and a diecut shoe, decorated with pink gems.

A tiny little teaset standing proud and decorated with cerise gems.

Some super thick jelly peel offs.  Love that seahorse!
