Safely back home after an eventful week. No time to rest though as I have to catch up on all my swaps and ..... there's an Open Weekend coming up at Tyseley Loco Works.
My desk this week ....
I am in the middle of making some backgrounds for a swap - I'm not very good at this but I will keep trying!!
We have spent two days down at the Loco Works - Vintage Trains - getting the garden into shape so that it is neat and tidy for the visitors. We always have lots of photographers, so we have the extra job of cutting down the bushes and then they have a clear view down the track when we run the Cavalcade - three engines of the Castle class pulling the carriages along the track. It's quite awesome!!
This year we are celebrating 50years of running steam engines so there are lots of extra interests - the Carousel from Vanity Fair television show is there, we have watched it arriving. We also have a steam Musical Organ and several Traction Engines - that's without the Miniature Railways!! Such a lot of steam energy that there will be no room for cars to park (except disabled) so PJ will have his work cut out trying to placate motorists who haven't read the small print requesting that folk come by bus or train!!
Me? I hope to be sitting in the garden selling Lavender Bags and chatting to folk......
I am a bit excited!!!
PS - from the newsletter.....
A host of additional attractions will include historic miniature railway locomotives rarely seen in public. Sutton Flyer, from the now defunct Sutton (Park) Miniature Railway, will return to Birmingham for the first time in 56 years.
On Saturday 29th, Eagle will be commissioned following its televised
restoration and The Transport Trust will present its Red Wheel award to Tyseley
for its work in steam preservation.
Attractions for all the family from young to old will include an 1893
built steam powered fairground with a 34 horse (and 2 cockerel) carousel,
complete with the historic sounds of its Gavioli organ, as seen in the ITV
period drama Vanity Fair. A children’s carousel dating from 1910 and the
obligatory candy floss stall will complete the picture. Children (and adults
should they wish) are encouraged to enter the spirit of the event and dress in
1960’s fashion.
Traction engines, classic cars and preservation society stands will be
exhibiting and of course, catering will be available.
Loving the creative business on your desk. Can you show some photos of the steam trains at some point pretty please! I absolutely adore steam trains and my 40th birthday present was a steam driving experience on our local steam railway. Thanks for sharing. Have a lovely day. God Bless. Caro x (#23)
ReplyDeleteI so look forward to some photos of your open weekend Christine. My brother-in-law would be there in a shot if it were closer (they live in Crawley) as he has a passion for steam trains. Hope all goes well. Thanks for visiting already, Sarah #2
ReplyDeleteNice busy desk today! Keep working at your backgrounds, they will get better! Sounds you are going to have a blast with the trains - take pictures! Happy fall, have a great week, Lindart #21
ReplyDeleteSounds fabulous! hope you take lots of pics! Helen #7
ReplyDeleteno lie-in this Saturday as it's the last of the member's early openings so will be back again. then from next week I do, as they'll be opening at 10 for everyone.
ReplyDeleteOOh it’s going to be a busy one! You’ve got the best job, chatting to people and gently relieving them of some money! I like your backgrounds; I’m a bit like Angela at Felix The Crafty Cat, I make a masterboard. Not for the same reasons though - it’s big enough for me to make a bit of a hash and then when it’s cut to size, it seems less hash-full!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful time you're both going to have! Funnily enough there's a big steam rally in the country park this weekend which we hope to get to, Gordon is looking forward to taking lots of photos!

ReplyDeleteNice projects on the desk. Sounds like you're in for a busy time and hope it all goes well. Have a lovely creative week and a happy woyww, Angela x16x
ReplyDeleteI hope the steam rally goes well and doesn’t get rained on, Christine! My hubby would love that. Thank you for your lovely comment and sorry to miss you if you were in our neck of the woods! Not that I’ve had much time lately and I’m still really behind with everything - it’s amazing how even taking a single day out to rest puts one back for the rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW,

Hi Christine, I just realised you can't live far from my youngest son, who lives just round the corner from Tysley Railway station. Hope your weekend goes well, weather looks to be holding for you. Lol, no-one EVER reads the small print! Have a lovely week, hugs, Shaz #10 X

Hope your weekend goes well - we love steam engines and often go on the Severn Valley.
ReplyDeleteYour backgrounds look lovely, no way you are not good at it. And your weekend sounds like very busy but exciting and fun! Thanks for your visit earlier this week. I'm late 'doing the round' as it's Friday already... enjoy your weekend! Marit #8
ReplyDeleteYour weekend sounds wonderful, can't get down I am afraid as we have just got back from holiday (3 this morning) and lack of sleep because of the heat has put paid to our weekend being much other than sleeping/dozing. Anyway, I will be thinking of you and hoping you do well with your lavender bags and that PJ is ok with his marshalling. Good luck for the event!!
ReplyDeleteBtw, your backgrounds are fine, what is it you are doing with them?
