WOYWW #459

Last week I had several folks ask what was in the pink lidded boxes so I thought I would show you 'almost next to my desk' today.
This is a shelving unit, of which I have many, that stands atop my desk.  Well, it stands on top of the join between my work desk (which used to be DH's) and my PC desk.

On the top shelf I have my files - the small blue ones contain Embossing Folders and the large Black ones my Creative Stamping magazines and stamps.
The next shelf has files and boxes - the small blue files contain my Dies and then I have two larger files, the thin lavender one is my work file and the large yellow one is my stamps file.  I keep a copy of all my stamps in here, before I put them away I stamp a copy in here, and 'one day' I will add the box number to each image!
The boxes!
I have labelled each box quite simply - felt tip general contents on a piece of A5 paper!  lol
It works quite well for me until I go to a stamp fair, buy a magazine etc.  After the last one I found that all my boxes were filled!
I WILL NOT BUY ANY MORE BOXES!
These boxes were a birthday present from PJ and DDN .... and I don't have any more room.
So......
How to fit in more stamps .....
I cheated and unmounted a few wooden ones, this almost emptied the box and now I have a bit more room.........
When this box is filled then I will have to stop collecting stamps.  Honest!
Well, at least I can try!

Have a good week and I will try to get round to visit a few more of your desks this week.

What'sOnYourWorkdeskWednesday - if you want to find out more then checkout the WOYWW tab at the top of the page - and our thanks go to Julia for hosting this weekly meet up.

  1. Ha! stop collecting stamps....ok then! you’re quite right, we are experiencing a glorious sunny day already, snow be gone, am sick of it! Impressed that you index the stamps, but with labels on the boxes, i’m Guessing that you ‘know’ where to go for them anyway. Only if someone broke in one night and moved the labels around would you be foxed!!

  2. Ha! I love the way you get around the 'No More Room' problem by unmounting your stamps, lol!! That's creative thinking Christine and I applaud you for it. I do like your storage system very much, mine is made up of old shoe boxes at the moment :-D

  3. Hi Christine, I did laugh at the thought of not buying any more stamps. You are super organised with the indexing though. Thank goodness the sun is back out; I might even get washing dry outside today. Have a good week and thanks for adding me on FB. Sarah #12

  4. Afternoon Christine. Wonderful! Love your post! Do you reckon you will actually stop buying stamps? Or will you find a different, sneaky way of getting more in your room? Teehee...
    Take care girl. God bless.

  5. Happy WOYWW. You can always get some digital stash - and then you get lots of new designs and no storage issues! My excuse for collecting digital stuff anyway. Ali x #13

  6. Lol at you Christine! Stop collecting stamps? In which lifetime? lol. I unmounted mine from wood to give me more room, I'd need a bigger house if I hadn't! Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #5 XxX

  7. well, I suppose there are people Christine that have that will power to stop collecting stamps but, seeing as I cannot even draw a straight line I am not one of them... ( I have Christmas stamps in the closet and all the others scattered all over the room :) ~Stacy #31

  8. Us crafters can always find "just a bit more room" can't we. Never utter those terrible words, stop buying stamps, there is always something to tempt us and with a bit of shuffling, always room to put them.

  14. Well done Christine on labelling and cataloguing. I have some kind of system in hand but must admit my file with the images in has gone awol these days.
Stop buying stamps? Well, I stopped the 'fever rush' when I go to shows and I buy very little these days. I need to use some I bought years ago and get some ink on before they disintegrate from lack of use.

  15. Oh, you're funny. I look at my collection and know I'll be buying more. Where I'll put them I have no clue but not buying? Not even an option. hehe Love your storage system and how each of us finds what works for us. Creative Blessings! Kelly #25

  16. The idea of a crafter resolving to buy no more stamps is as ridiculous to me as my hubby resolving not to buy any more books lol lol!! I always say I'll believe it when I see it! Love your pink boxes, and you are very organised. I'm getting more dies now and wondering whether the ice cream box without a lid is going to continue to be the ideal storage for them... I quite like the idea of having them in a file. I do that with my stencils, so why not?

Thank you for your lovely comment and your good wishes for my operation next week. I'm hoping against hope they won't postpone it but given their past record I've got to be prepared. My desk is still empty and will probably remain so till I'm out of hospital as I've got a lot of other stuff to do now the mystery project is finished, and to get ready to go into hospital.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  18. great use of space. Like you I am refusing to buy more boxes but trying to find innovative ways of storing what I already have. I love being able to shop my own space rather then having to run out and find at a store BUT I have reached the point I am having difficulty remembering what I do have! Have a great week and thank you for stopping by earlier and leaving a comment! Vickie #6

  20. This is why I started unmounting all my stamps! I won't stop buying them, I just needed more room!My original system was the same as yours, I made a excel file of all the stamps (before that, I also stamped each stamp, as you do), cross-referenced them, then put the stamp in the right box. I found I seldom used my file, and often just ended up rummaging through my stamp boxes. Now it is MUCH easier, as my stamps are stored in binders. I've been using a lot more stamps that I hardly ever used before, I have a ton more room! Thanks for your visit, sorry for the late reply! Lindart #34
