Another exciting and different week here .... not exciting and slowly becoming the norm .......
Let us start with PJ.... (beware - bit gory photos following)
No desk pictures this weekend, he's been a tad busy trying to repair small engines (don't mention Thomas!), going out for trips, getting ready for Christmas etc .....
Oh! and falling down .....yes! ..... again!.......
No bones broken this time but a frightening time for me. He fell this time just outside the back door while I was inside preparing the tea (see following) and I never heard a thing......
The resulting graze to the head, sore hand and grazed knee (protected by trousers) didn't seem too bad........
Grazed and swollen |
VERY swollen |
Later on when changing for bed, I looked at his knee.....
..... that looks broken to me ..... time for 111 again.
Several hours later, with knee swelling and the bruise colouring up ...... we were off to the A&E.....
By now it is 00.40hrs, the acci happened at 18.00hrs so the knee and head looked technicoloured!
The Department was absolutely rammed with beds double parked. I felt so, so sorry for the staff......... we were moved to the waiting room and he was assessed eventually (about 03.30hrs with a comment "why have you waited till now?"!!!!!) and then told to wait back in the waiting room.
At about 06.50 there were four patients left to be seen, the emergency entrance had cleared and filled several times, so I went through to see the original nurse to ask how much longer we would wait as we had been up since 07.00hrs the previous day ......
Doctor Singh arrived full of apologies, examined the knee, sent us to XRay, diagnosed no broken or chipped bones but severe bruising which would bring with it a lot of pain - Bless!!
Good Colours and a blister |
PJ has rested his knee, doing exercises whilst sitting down.......he is on the mend now and will be back to constructing his engine soon!!
My desk, needless to say, is a bit chaotic, having had all sorts thrown at it .....
Yes, that's an empty box of food right there in the middle!!! Sitting among the Christmas cards, bought and made, which have yet to be written...... think we're moving on to 1st Class stamps now!!. lol
We went shopping the day of PJ's accident and this box of food was reduced so we had nothing to lose - I was preparing this meal when PJ fell. I have to say I am quite impressed with it, although the portions were slightly smaller than M&S (see Train Trip post which will follow), there was a bigger selection.
Anyways up, it is there cos I need the card to make another swap ...... guess the theme time again!!!
So sorry the photos are a bit gory but I am amazed the difference a couple of days can make to the Human Body .....
Hope to post a happy Boxing Day post next week, but if I don't make it ...... I hope you and your families have a happy, peaceful and warm Christmas with lots of hugs and kisses.
Oh djee, what a story... I, too, was amazed once going to the ER (here in the netherlands, I had a noseblood that wouldn't stop, years ago it was) how polite the staff was and how agressive some people were/are even when they had to wait just for a few minutes... I cheer to the ER staff with you! I stop by for the last time this year to say hello and wish you happy holidays, see you in 2019. Love from Holland, Marit #22
ReplyDeleteHi Christine, poor Peter! So easily done though. And yes, A&E can be a nightmare, and the staff do indeed deserve a medal for what they do and how they cope. Glad it was only bruising. Have a lovely Christmas, with love from us both. Hugs, Shaz #5 X
ReplyDeleteHi Christine and PJ. OUCH!!! I do trust all will continue to recover, PJ - and that by Christmas you will be dancing! Yes - having had 7 999calls for John in one year, I can totally agree - the A&E staff are wonderful, amazing, copers, full of enthusiasm for their job, and compassion for their patients!!! The ambulance guys and gals are pretty amazing too - even when quietly saying to one another (thinking I may be deaf!) "I don't think we'll be hanging around with this one"!
ReplyDeleteHave a precious Christmas.
Take care. God bless.

So sorry to hear of PJ's fall and resulting lengthy spell in A&E - glad to hear nothing is broken and hope the pain hasn't been too bad for him.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too

Oh poor PJ (and you!), what a thing to happen. I'm so pleased that nothing major was broken but you're so right about admiring the NHS staff, I don't know how they do it. I hope you both have a wonderful Christmas and use that rest to do some lovely things.

well mine is nothing in comparison.. poor PJ... you are right, i don't know how the NHS staff cope (one of my good crafting friends is a nurse and the stories she tells... ) Hope you can enjoy Christmas and PJ's knee recovers soon. Helen #1 / 2
ReplyDeleteOh my giddy aunt, Christine, what a shock and an ordeal for you both, am very glad that Peter seems to be on the mend, continue to take it easy, please. Happy to hear that you’ll be having a ‘turn up and enjoy Christmas...just as well now, too! Hope you ge the swap sorted, love your recycling, especially after a good meal! Love to you for a Happy and peaceful Christmas. Xx
ReplyDeleteOh Christine! I can't look at those photos. Just got my mum back after breaking her hip. They did put her on a bed in A+E but she was there so long that it made her back sore on top of the broken hip. I have never seen so much blood which came from a tiny cut on her head where she hit it on the wall as she went down. Anyway...Just want to wish you the best for Christmas and hope it's full of fun too. Thank you for all the great comments and wishing you a lovely woyww, Angela x17x
ReplyDeleteOh wow Christine, poor PJ and poor you. So glad nothing is broken and hope he recovers soon. Thanks for the card! Merry Christmas and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #4
ReplyDeleteOh no Poor PJ not want you want to happen anytime let alone around Christmas. A good excuse to put your feet up and enjoy the festive season, I hope you will be joining him Christine :)

Ah fun and games there Christine, poor OJ and poor you. I’ve been to ER three time, last time, unconscious and critical so don’t rembember itbut they were marvellous the other times, once was just stitched up and other tiem ended up in surgical. Oh I’ve forgotten the broken bone s ones x2 where needed up in plaster!
ReplyDeleteHowever it is frenetic and a great trial, and I seemed to chose weekend mostly.
I’m glad pJ had no breaks as patella breaks can be really tricky!
Pray you’re well, and happy belated WOYWW and happy Christmas as we remember the birth of our Lord Jesus.

Oh Christine, what an awful time you both had! Poor PJ... Glad to hear he is now on the mend. It was definitely the wise decision to get him to A&E, and I am glad that no bones were broken. It does look extremely painful, though. It makes me very angry that the department is always so full of stupid people who are there because it’s their own stupid fault, disrupting everything and causing untold stress to the staff and genuine patients alike. How the wonderful staff can cope with it all is beyond me - they are the unsung heroes of our society and deserve gold medals, all of them. I have had several A&E experiences and everyone has always been marvellous.
ReplyDeleteI shan’t be joining WOYWW next week because we are busy on Boxing Day but hope to join in the fun again with you all in the New Year. Where has this year gone, I ask myself?
Happy belated WOYWW,
