WooHoo!! 700 posts!! Well done Missus Dunnit!! Through thick and thin you've been there for us, thank you so much . . . . .
The desk . . .
This old hat has been used every winter or windy day for 10+ years. It's just a beanie with some added Christine invented decoration. The plaiting adds height on top and more warmth to my ears . . . . .
I haven't managed to finish my new hat as yet, like Peter always used to say . . . I unpick more than I knit!!
The hat is just a beanie pattern so no problem there, it's the wonderful invented decoration that is causing the slowdown to the finish.
These are my third lengths ready to plait. The first were too short so I had to undo and knit a few more rows . . . . The second ones were too thin. I counted the stitches on the old hat and proceeded at a a pace . . . the plaits added NOTHING to the hat.
These are my third attempt, more stitches, bigger pins and, to be honest, I am quite hopeful that I will be wearing it when I go out again . . . . .
I haven't been creating, I have been again trying to sort 'things' . . . . new underbed storage bins so baby clothes all sorted plus wool of course. These bins will be stored in the garage as the space is needed for the Christmas Tree Village. I like to start early and add something more everyday, I like the changes and the children like to see what they can find new . . . .
This started way back when my children were small, chocolate decorations were added last as the house rule was that once they had been eaten . . . . the tree came down!!! Sneaky eats meant that we often had one dec hanging around until after Christmas . . . . you can guess who ate that so she could get the tree down and the house back to some normality!! lol
I DO remember one year that the tree came down on Boxing Day!!!!!
Anyhoos, I am scheduling this as I have a lot to do on my laptop . . . end of the month and all that . . .
Happy 700!! I’m so pleased that our paths crossed, it’s brilliant to see what you get up to each week! Love the brilliant pink yarn for your hat, let’s rope that Take 3 on the decoration will work out! I love seeing your Christmas town each year, you’ll have to share some pics!

Well your 10+yr hat still looks good but the pink one will be smashing. The plaited bands as super a really good addition to a plain beanie hat. Third time lucky (better write the pattern out as a reminder in 10yrs LOL). Little bit confused as to where the space for the Christmas Village is? At first I thought it was in the boxes under the bed! Hopefully a photo in time will enlighten me. Hugs BJ#5
ReplyDeleteHi Christine, I love your 10yr hat it's gorgeous and I'm sure the new one will be just as good though I do especially love all the colours in the old one. Look forward to seeing the Christmas decs when you set them up. It may seem early but we all know Christmas will be here before you know it. Hopoe you get your jobs done and wishing you a very happy woyww, Angela x9x
ReplyDeleteThat hat is stunning. LOVE your invented decorations and where is the pattern then? :D. My little crank that makes I-cords could kinda work although the plaits would be a bit thin. Still...I wonder if they could top a pair of sock? to binding for slipping over the heel? Hummm.. I'm worried about the first Xmas with a tree AND a cat! eek!
ReplyDeleteHappy 700th WOYWW!

Happy 700...and thanks for the visit. I love the old hat, yarn looks so soft and pretty colors. I've never knit, regret saying no to grandma. She did get me to do crochet and I love it, years ago made so many afghans.
ReplyDeleteI had sandals you pink color this year, got so many compliments on them. I love that one also, but I'm a homemade person. Have fun with your Christmas decor. I do the same a little here and a little there so not such a big project. I'll leave some fall out til Thanksgiving 24th as it's now my favorite. Christmas is a sad time here for me..Parents gone, sisters in AZ if it's bad weather we don't go nor kids don't travel here. Haven't adjusted yet to just the 2 of us. ENJOY
What a great hat design Christine - I can't believe the original is 10 years old - it looks so fresh. Good luck with finishing the new one and getting started on the festive decor. Stay safe and Happy 700th WOYWW. Sarah #1
ReplyDeleteI love your "ancient" hat! the new one looks good too - gorgeous colour. Hope you have a happy week - and 700 more! Helen #3
ReplyDeleteI love that tradition with the village. We have a village too, but hubby wants it out all year long. We do have a Santa's workshop that we can turn to close, then turn to open at Christmas. The village is getting too big for the spot where we have it, we will have to start creating "streets' on the bookshelves that are beside it! I like the candy idea too - what fun! Have a great week, Lindart #22
ReplyDeleteYour older hat has lovely colours. I find knitted hats ride up over my ears, leaving them cold! Happy WOYWW. Angela #13
ReplyDeleteWhy did you need a new hat? Your 10 year old one looks fabulous and the plaiting around the edge is an inspired addition. Hope the new one is ready for modelling next week.

LURVE the colourful plaited hat. Love the new pink one too, I hope you get the stitches right? Your eating chocolates for the tree to come down is just fab. Trouble is it would be March for us as I always buy too much! Maybe not this year?
ReplyDeleteHi Christine. That pink hat is going to be something else - good for you!!! Hope you get it sorted now the temperatures are dropping.
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.

Happy 700th woyww! I am late with my visit but I managed to squeeze some time to look at desks this morning, and I like what I see! That beany: really lovely! I too am more of an 'unpicker' than a knitter, ha! I knitted me a shawl - just an easy 'straight' shawl, and I started over 5 time! My husband thought I'd gone crazy... Have a great day/weekend dear. Love from the Netherlands. Marit #2
ReplyDeleteLove the colour of your new hat, I find British people always go for dark dismal colours in winter inside of bright happy colours. Three attempts at the edging you are very patience I would have throw it in the unfinished box after attempts number 2. Happy 700 and here's to another 300!! Ani.
ReplyDeleteThe plaited edge makes a unique hat, great idea. Love the pink colour,it’s a perfect choice for you! I do admire that you unpick and re-do, I have to admit that it’s the sort of problem that makes me throw things and not come back to them! Hope your month end works have gone smoothly; I did ours and smugly stuck everything back in the filing cabinet and almost literally washed my hands. Only to realise it’s the VAT submission month end too. Argh! My fault, but still, argh!! Loving the upcoming village assembly, gosh family traditions are so precious and comforting aren’t they.
ReplyDeleteHI christine, I'm sure you've cracked that decorative edge by now!! That colour is super and well, so you! I love the chocolate decoration trick - I always keep the tree up to the last day possible but the family does disagree about when it goes up. They are already asking me (kids, they are all nearly in their 30s). I would prefer a week after my birthday (2nd) but I'm not sure who'll win this year!! Happy 700!! Love n hugs, Cindyxx #14
