WOYWW #477

WOYWW - All the deets on how to link up etc. and, more importantly, why you should, can be found at the top to the page.  Thank you Julia for hosting another week of fun and mayhem.

This has been a dreadful week for me ..... I am a Winter Baby ..... heat is not good for a Winter Baby!
The craft room is not a cool place even with a fan blowing cold cool warm hot air into the room.
So I am downstairs in the lounge ..... watching old recorded programmes ...... and producing these .....

Remember them?

Still crocheting away, making piles of tiny blankets for premature and stillborn babies.....

Not wanted in the Summer in this heat? .....
.......we all need something to remind us of a new birth .... at any time of year....

but at least this heat has its upside ....

..... sometime ago our resident squirrel buried his 'finds' in the garden ....

lo!  the heat has brought forth a peanut bush .......

.... this absolutely gorgeous flower appeared above the heron deterrent netting over the pond ....  This photo does not do it justice!
It is the most delicate shades of white and pink .....

... its roots are buried down deep in the cool water of the pond just by the yellow mimosas.

We have had these plants several years now.

The 'architectural' plant usually produces these flowers in small bunches just above the water level.  Very pretty.

It appears to thrive in our pond and each spring we thin it out, called Architectural because it just goes its own way forming beautiful 'islands' in the pond.

Our faithful old cat (she's achieved 18 years) is struggling in this heat but has found her favourite place ......

Just far enough away from this to have her fur gently wafted ....

... even when the oomans come to bed!

         Disturb at your peril!!!

I hear it's going to rain soon ...... hope the storms don't come but one must have both I'm afraid ..... If they come to you ...... stay safe.

  1. Hi Christine, I must admit it is rather too hot for me too. I am not getting a great deal done. I do feel sorry for our furry friends at this time of year too. Love your mini blankets and for such a good cause. I'm hoping the storms come at night with as little damage as possible. Have a cooler week. Sarah #13

  2. Oh Christine, I feel for you. I have NO idea what I would do if I didn't have air conditioning. I know you must be burning there. Those little blankets are beautiful, though, and your new peanut plant is also a sign of new life. Thanks for the earlier visit. Happy WOYWW from # 1.

  3. I love the beautiful flower, gorgeous! It's hard for men and cats to stay cool these days, we too have the ventilator on all day. I just heard a tip for cooling down the bedroom at night if you don't have air conditioning: fill plastic bottles (from soft drinks) three quarter with water (don't fill it completely!) and put them in the freezer. When you go to bed, place the bottles on a plate (because of condens water) in the room in front of the fan... the fan blows 'cool air' onto the room while the water melts.... it works great! 4. Hi Christine, lovely garden shots. Squirrels can be so amusing, I recall finding lots of buried peanuts when clearing out planters a couple of years ago. I know just how needed the blankets are, having had two prem babies- one who only survived 24 hours, the second is now in his 30's!Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #7 XxX

  5. I’m a July baby and loving it! So sorry it’s causing you trouble, specially if you can’t sleep. The little blankness are a great idea to keep your hands busy without a lap full of wool! I think the cat has the right idea really - do nothing, and do it in front of a fan!!

  6. My old puss cat doesn't know what to do with himself either!! He's in and out, sometimes in shade but sometimes in full sun...stupid moggy! I admire you for crocheting in this heat, my hands get very sticky especially when working with acrylic yarn...so you're a brave woman in my eyes!

  7. Morning Christine. Your blankets are lovely - and will be gratefully received, I'm sure. How big/small are they??? They look not much bigger than a handkerchief. The pond plant is glorious - I keep having to fill up my pond because of evaporation - but the plants are stunning this year!!
    Take care. God bless.

  8. Really enjoyed your photos...nature at it's best. Weather all over is one extreme to another. Fires, deep water, intense heat, tornadoes, flat line winds and now a nature nuisance biting bugs But FALL items showing in the stores. And the poor little animals get caught up in it too. Enjoy a great week

  9. I am a June baby and hate it!! I can't stand the noise of a fan all night - in fact after the noise of one being on all day at work I don't tend to put mine on at all, besides, it only wafts hot air around. Here's to a cool autumn - SOON!! Helen #4

  10. Love the pond plant! I cannot stand the noise of a fan at night, but am lucky - our house is heated by an air flow boiler that is about 40 years old - the advantage of this is that it can circulate air around the house without heating it so it keeps us cooler at night by circulating the air from the cooler bottom of the house without being noisy in the bedroom. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week. Love Caro x (#20)

  11. HI Christine, here is hoping we all get a little relief from the heat soon. ( my husband is the only person I know here that is enjoying it) looks like your kitty found the best seat in the house to cope. ~Stacy #31

  12. Hi Christine, What a lovely thing to do for the babies.

Plants are looking very sorry for themselves here. We've had temps into the 30s for the past six days. Hope your cat can keep cool.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    Happy WOYWW

  14. Hi Christine, you need a fan like mine that you can put a freezer block into so that it blows out cold air rather than just moving warm air around. Thanks for showing your plant in the pond as one has popped up here and I had never seen it before, it's pinkish, seemed to come up around some grass looking stuff. Wishing you a great woyww, Angela x17x

  16. My old dear of a dog is suffering with the heat, even the shady spots in the garden are too much for her. Those little blankets are a sweet idea, i'm rubbish at knitting or crochet.

  19. Hi Christine, sorry I so late visiting, bit of a busy day yesterday. I'm a winter baby too, and certainly don't do hot weather, nether does my poor Max. Those baby blankets are lovely, good to have lots in readiness for when they are required. Thanks for visiting my desk, will try to show the Christmas cards next week.

  20. HI Christine, I can definitely relate, seriously wilting in this unaccustomed heat as well. Those little blankets are so pretty and lacy, beautiful. Had to smile at the peanut bush - where we live there's a walnut tree, so we often find little walnut trees planted by our resident squirrel gardeners :o) Annie C #10

  21. Well after a long time it seems I am back, don't know why Blogger isn't sending me emails or notifications of your posts? Love your crochet, such pretty colours you've put together. I've never seen a peanut bush, so that is quite interesting. The flower is very pretty and certainly making it's mark in the water. As for the heat, we have had it cooler than some of the UK, now we have the rain, but don't mind it as long as we have the heat back soon LOL. I don't know why I love it so much, I was born in the very hard and cold with 6 foot deep snow of '47.

  22. We've had some rain without the storms - much cooler now yay! But apparently, heat returns next week :( I didn't know you had a kitty! Awww, she should be featured more often! Oreo looks much happier now that it's cooler, though he was complaining about the rain earlier. It's never perfect, is it LOL? Crocheting in front of the telly sounds like a very relaxing activity and who says you can't make blankets in the summer? Thanks for your visit earlier - enjoy the rest of your weekend! zsuzsa #12
